BOSSES at Jet2 have hailed the “truly phenomenal” launch at Bournemouth Airport one month after the major expansion.

The low cost package holiday airline will start flying from the county’s airport from April 2025 to 16 sunny destinations across Europe and Turkey.

“Strong and sustained demand” has been seen by the company since the commitment to 27 weekly flights from two aircraft was announced in late March.

Steve Heapy, Jet2’s chief executive, said: “We know that customers and independent travel agents had been waiting keenly for us to make this move, and the reaction to the launch has reflected this.

“From day one, and over the last four weeks, the response to our award-winning flights and holidays going on sale from Bournemouth Airport has been truly phenomenal, and we are delighted at how well the launch has been received.

“Customers and independent travel agents are clearly relishing the chance to book our award-winning flights and holidays.”

Destinations the airline will fly to include Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Turkey and Greece as well as services to hotspots such as Mainland Spain, Portugal and Madeira.

Two destinations (Fuerteventura and Madeira) are exclusive from Bournemouth Airport.

But the top five destinations residents have been booking from Bournemouth are Antalya, Tenerife, Dalaman, Majorca and Rhodes – although the company said sales are strong for all destinations.

Mr Heapy added: “Since launching one month ago today, we saw an immediate surge in bookings from Bournemouth Airport, and that demand shows no sign of slowing down.

“Between now and April 1, 2025, when our first flight departs from Bournemouth Airport, we are focusing relentlessly on getting everything ready, so we can delight customers with our award-winning service and showcase just why we are the leading leisure airline and UK’s largest tour operator.”

Bournemouth Airport is Jet2’s 12th UK airport base and elected to come to Hurn in response to “years of demand from customers and independent travel agents in Bournemouth, Southampton, Portsmouth and the wider south of England region”.

Jet2’s arrival at Bournemouth Airport has also resulted in more than 100 new jobs being created initially, with positions available across flight deck, cabin crew, engineering and ground operations.
