DORSET darts star Scott Mitchell produced a stunning comeback to move into the fourth round of the UK Open.
Scotty Dog trailed Walsall’s Matthew Dennant 5-1 in Minehead, before reeling off five legs in succession to win the match 6-5, with an incredible 156 finish.
Mitchell missed darts to win the opening two legs and found himself 3-0 down before getting on the board.
Dennant extended his lead with a 26-darter as both players scrapped around on double one.
The finishing then hit the other end of the scale, Dennant moving to within one leg of victory with a sublime 152 checkout as Mitchell waited on 36.
The 2015 BDO world champion responded with a brilliant 11-darter, before getting the score back to 5-4.
Mitchell missed double 18 for a 156 out, only to come back and clear up the leg.
But he would not be denied the eye-catching shot to win the match, pinning the 156 with Dennant sat on 52.
Earlier in the day, Mitchell produced impressive displays to defeat highly-rated teenager Leighton Bennett, followed by Scot Darren Beveridge, both by a score of 6-4.
Mitchell will be back in action tonight, with his opponent to be confirmed as the seeded players enter the event.
