When we find luxury products to revamp the home, it can help lift our spirits, not just the interior aesthetics.

Fired Earth, established in 1983, began life in a rented farmyard in Oxfordshire, selling handmade terracotta tiles - hence the company’s name ‘terracotta’ translating as ‘fired earth’. Customers embraced the opportunity to add some warm, Mediterranean style to their homes, and terracotta tiles continue to sell well to this day.

Over the last 30 years , Fired Earth has branched out all over the UK with a Dorset showroom in Sherborne. The recently launched Jurassic Coast and Studland Bay tile collections offer a perfect combination of style and function that could update any home. The beautiful Dorset inspired collection includes various colourways dubbed Studland Bay, Durlston, Swanage and Corfe.

The company's ethos is to offer products that are produced with authenticity, creativity and style. Where possible, their products are handmade and produced close to home, with Fired Earth working with artisan craftspeople to create beautiful products and to help preserve age-old production techniques.

For example, Fired Earth's encaustic tile ranges are made using traditional methods. As a result, tiles made in the summer can vary slightly from those made in the winter, giving them a truly unique appeal.

Colin Roby-Welford, Fired Earth’s Creative Director, explains: "We are endlessly inspired by the beauty of the natural world and are constantly looking to offer products that enhance life, not just from an aesthetic point of view but also from a practical one.

"The collections take inspiration from Dorset’s stunning coastline, somewhere many of us here at Fired Earth visit regularly.

"Made from low-maintenance and hardwearing porcelain - designed to make life that little bit easier – the Jurassic Coast range replicates the quartzite that is a key characteristic of Dorset’s downlands, while the Studland Bay collection offers a robust alternative to natural wood.

“The floor planks - which are inspired by locations across the Dorset coast - look amazingly realistic and yet they will not warp so they are ideal for use in kitchens and bathrooms. They can even be used outdoors so they are perfect if you are planning to extend a kitchen floor onto a terrace or patio.”

Fired Earth has long been renowned for its beautiful tiles. From hand decorated Moroccan designs and the definitive metro-style tile, to sophisticated porcelain parquetry, timeless marble, geometric encaustic tiles and crisp, architectural slates there are tiles for every style of home and for a wide variety of budgets. If you are undecided, designers can offer endless expertise based on years of experience in selling tiles and ancillary products such as underfloor heating.

Their paint collection is incredibly versatile too, offering an array of colours from perfect neutrals to exciting, bold shades such as Hummingbird, Goldfinch and Nightingale. In addition to paints, wallpapers, tiles and solid and engineered oak flooring, their range includes contemporary and classic bathrooms (everything from luxurious freestanding baths and marble-topped washstands to minimal showers and brassware in finishes ranging from polished nickel and vintage bronze to brushed steel and, of course, chrome) and kitchens.
