BCS is one school on two sites; the senior and boarding school is located on the clifftop in Southbourne, Dorset on a beautiful five acre site.

They regard the beach as part of the school facilities, with it being less than a five minute walk away. The BCS sixth form is on the same site and continuesto produce intelligent, charismatic students.

At the prep school, based in Lower Parkstone, they start at age two with their newly-introduced nursery and take pupils through to Year 6, producing more grammar school pupils this year than ever before. They are blessed with a beautiful site in an urban setting; not many prep schools have an indoor pool, with regular swimming for all, and a forest school on-site. Not bad for a school that is located less than two hours on the train from London.

They are an ambitious school and strive to develop the “Best in Everyone”. They add value at all stages of the education they provide by focusing on raising achievement in all areas of the school.

Academic results have increased significantly over the last few years; this year A-level results demonstrated another year of excellent academic and personal achievements for students at the sixth form, with over 75% ofstudents achieving grades A*-Cand a third gaining top grades A*-A.

Head teacher, Mr Russell Slatford MA, says: “We are delighted to announce that 100% of students gained places at their first choice university. At GCSE, 85% of pupils achieved grades A*-C with 97% of all students passing Maths (with 100% of girls) and over a third of all pupils gaining top grades A*-A.

“We have been particularly pleased with results across numeroussubject areas, highlights include one student who is going to be on the Fashion Styling and Production BA course at the University of Arts London, the best fashion university in the world. Another is off to NABA in Milan to study advertising, art and graphic design.”

Business, music, science and mathematics results have all been particularly strong for students at BCS and have gone towards securing places at Russell Group Universities as well as The Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford and The Royal College of Music in London.

Their sixth form has grown significantly in the last two years and they are proud to offer a broad range of subjects while maintaining their small, personal teaching groups; rarely accommodating more than 10.

There is no doubt BCS israising achievement in the classroom but education is about developing a well-rounded, balanced and confident young person, whetherthey be in the prep, seniorschool or sixth form, their focus remains the same.

Visual arts, sport and drama are flourishing and play a key part in helping young people to reach their potential. They provide specialist teaching and coaching in numerous ways, thus providing opportunity for widespread participation as well as the chance to excel.

Through their Elite Academy Program, BCS has produced a Paralympic gold medal swimmer, recently awarded an MBE, as well as top national ranked tennis players who train in the Elite Tennis Program at the West Hants Club.

Their Rugby Academy is linked with Bath Rugby and their highly successful Football Academy is linked with Southampton FC. Scholarships in academic, sport and the arts are on offer for pupilsjoining the seniorschool. They also offer means-tested bursaries, called the BCS Awards, potentially up to 100% of fees for outstanding academic performance.

Curiosity, creativity, commitment and community are the four “Cs” that underpin their approach to learning at BCS. By raising their achievement in each of these areas of school life they continue to bring out the “Best in Everyone”.
