I’m a huge fan of a facial. Leaving a salon with fresh, glowing, soft skin is the instant pick-me-up. So I was thrilled when I was invited to try the latest treatment, described as “the A-list, celebrity favourite”.

The Fire and Ice Resurfacing treatment (£120 for the first treatment or £300 for three appointments) is now being offered at SCA Clinic in Parkstone.

Practitioner Jolanta Markowicz tells me the facial is known as the “red carpet treatment”, due to its instant results and also the fact that there is no residual redness or other after-effects. The 30-minute facial uses the iS Clinical range of skincare products and is one of a range of treatments offered at SCA to optimise skin health, with each designed to target a different area of skin concern.

Fire and Ice’s main elements are the use of two skin masks – one which heats up the skin and leaves a “tingly” feeling, followed by a second to cool and sooth. Jolanta makes it clear that this is a “clinical” treatment rather than a relaxing one – no dimmed lights and opportunities to doze off here!

After a through cleanse, the first “fire” mask is applied and left for a few minutes. I can gradually feel a tingling sensation creeping across my skin, but the feeling is by no means uncomfortable.

Once this is gently removed, further creams are used before the application of the “ice” mask, which is left on for slightly longer than the “fire”. The tingling feeling instantly subsides and I can almost feel my skin drinking in moisture.

As promised, the results are instant.

My skin feels clean, soft and has a distinct glow, which is impressive after such a short treatment. Although regular treatments are recommended, the effects certainly lasted for a number of days following the treatment.

Described on the clinic’s literature as an “intensive botanical resurfacing treatment with a unique combination of pharmaceutical grade serums and complexes to optimise and improve skin,” the Fire and Ice facial is results driven, with zero downtime. It’s great for problematic skin, or those looking for an anti-ageing treatment.
