Liz Yelling describes herself as a mother, running coach and interior designer living in Dorset. She is, in fact, a former full-time athlete running cross country and marathons for Great Britain, a bronze medallist from the 2006 Commonwealth Games and a double Olympian.

Now retired from that pursuit, the mother-of-three is a part-time online coach and is also in the process of setting up a new business in interior design, called Two Birds Interior Design.

What would be your perfect day out in Dorset?

My perfect day out would be going for a run with my husband along the South-West Coast path, maybe 10-15miles somewhere between Swanage and Weymouth and then relaxing on the beach with the kids, with a fish and chip supper.

What are your fondest memories of the county?

One of my trips to Dorset over 25 years ago, I remember my first camping experience in the New Forest and sleeping under the stars with my husband I saw my first shooting stars.

What has been your proudest achievement?

All three of my children just pip my Commonwealth bronze medal.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I love adventure and seeing new places, running gives me the freedom to explore and see things you can’t see in a car. I love seeing great architecture and beautiful buildings.

What would be your favourite thing to do when you have a day off?

Chilling with friends and their families on the beach in the sun, with picnics, surfing, paddle boards, and hot chocolate.

Where is your favourite place to eat in the county?

There is a great place called Maekhong Thai Restaurant just off Ashley Road, it really is a ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ sort of place. It has the most authentic Thai food in the area!

What three things do you associate with Dorset?

Beaches, forest, and outdoor pursuits.

If you could summarise the county in one word what would it be?

Adventure! There is so much to do and see, you really are spoilt for choice.
