STERN advice was given to a driver caught 16mph over the speed limit, a police officer has said.

A car was stopped on a 30mph road in Lymington on Thursday, May 16 after it was caught going at 46mph.

Despite the speed, the officer who was out catching speeding cars didn’t issue the driver with a ticket but instead gave him “stern advice and education”.

PC Jelly, of Lymington and New Milton police, said: “The areas chosen where selected based on previous concerns noted during both beat surgeries and comments posted online.

“The results were good in that only a few vehicles where stopped and drivers spoken with regards to their speed.

“In a fashion that is honest and transparent I have to say that at the start of the enforcement the device being used had expired with regards to its certificate of calibration and so any driver found speeding would not have been reported for the offence.

“This is being rectified as we speak and so therefore do not be complacent as the next time we are out you will if you are caught speeding be reported for that offence.”

He added: “Please as we enter the summer months be mindful of your speed and do not drink or drug drive as we will be out there again soon.”
