A crime suspect asked the officers who arrested him for a selfie – after commending their efforts to track him down.

South Leicester Police tweeted the unusual selfie – with the man’s face obscured by an emoji – alongside messages reading “Yasss” and “They finally got me”.

The @SouthLeicester police Twitter account said the sergeant and constable who dealt with the arrest had been commended for their “tenacity” in locating him, and that he was wanted for numerous offences.

Leicester Police said in a statement: “Officers arrested a 30-year-old man yesterday (Sunday) on suspicion of three incidents of criminal damage and two breaches of a restraining order.

“One of the incidents of criminal damage was reported to police on 14 April, the other four offences are alleged to have occurred on 26 April.

“Following his arrest, the man has been released no further action for two of the reports of criminal damage and one of the breaches of a restraining order.

“He has been bailed for the other two offences.”
